OK, to try to cut down on stickies I've tried to amass the useful ones here.

It contains Choke-A-Likes, CD Duplication & Venue listing.

I'm going to lock it so for more useful info to be added we'll create a sticky and when it's done I'll add the useful parts here ok?

Choke-A-Likes

Er… us!! http://www.chokecentral.co.uk/pages/chokeLinks.htm

http://usagi102.tripod.com/sooc/sooc.htm

This link is for "Straight Outta Clapton" who are a collective based in London. They put on gigs and stuff and their website's got MP3 downloads and stuff. We met one of them in Widnes, Cheshire. His band Stig are playing at Choke soon.

www.oxfordbands.co.uk

Oxford Bands does reviews of local and visiting bands, interviews etc and they've also started to put on gigs of their own. My band played one of them a while back and met some really sound people including a girl who does a radio show and a few promoters. Seems to be plenty going on and this site's the main point of contact.

http://home.clara.net/lovepeacemusic/mtb_ari.html

-this Rocklands/LovePeaceMusic/whatever site is fucking full of useful stuff if you can make sense of it. It's kind of an online community for people who like music and get want to get DIY at promoting it.

http://www.seanchai.dircon.co.uk/links/ukother.html

http://www.alternativeswansea.com/

The Independant promotors network is worth a look, though this particular page has no links just a list:

http://www.btinternet.com/~email.kingsley/ipn.html

Diskant is a good resource

http://www.diskant.net/links/events.htm

Leeds has cops and robbers

http://www.dkemp.uklinux.net/cnr/

Oxford has truck records who do a bunch of stuff:

http://www.truckrecords.com

Big smoke does london and brighton. They are just promotors I think.

http://come.to/BigSmoke

www.unsignedshowcase.co.uk

does what it says on the tin.... magazine and regular showcases, usually of the Loud variety, in Reading.... website's a bit lame though....

Then of course there's www.decodepublishing.com

www.glam-ou-rama.co.uk

Genres: All types of music (We have put on everything from Local bands first ever gigs to the likes of The Futureheads, Maximo Park, Scissor Sisters, Jose Gonzalez)
Web: http://www.myspace.com/thelouisiana
Other Info: I am also the In House Promoter at The Louisiana, and am interested in booking Bristol and 10 mile surrounding area based bands and we also book bands through agencies and certain promoters (Lofi hifi, anB, Metropolis, sjm, live nation, Big Noise) I also smoke way to many cigarettes... I would advise bands from outside the Bristol area to try Moles Club, Bath.

Great Lake Swimmers, Ox, Eileen Rose, Constantines, The Long Winters, Centro-matic, Goldrush), and once, or twice, 'all in awe' (experimental, and generally louder). Generally these shows are at Meze also, though not always. And I like gig swaps. I will put on out of town bands, just dont expect loads of cash, or, furthermore, loads of people.

Contact: unwantedpromotions[at]gmail[dot]com

Radio Play

Last FM
.....is free internet radio that plays stuff based on what you've previously listened to, or is 'similar' to a chosen artist (based on what other people listen to). the selection they have is staggering to say the least, and it rarely plays music i dont like. its helped me find quite a few artists i would have otherwise never heard of. its also got many thousands of listeners (354 listening right now)

but theres more, which ive just discovered.

you can submit your own music to it, so that it also gets included in the system - so people listening to similar stuff will get to hear it.

its database of artists is updated by tracking what people listen to on their pc, which includes cds and mp3s. which means, if any of the last.fm listeners have listened to your stuff, then last.fm knows about you, they already have a page all about you, showing which of your songs are most popular, and what bands you are considered similar to, etc - and could potentially be playing your music and linking to your website.

doing a few searches, ive found that last.fm already knows about the following bands (click to see the page)

hunting lodge
loxodonta
north sea navigator
rose kemp
sj esau
steveless
team brick

i think this is a great potential oppurtunity to get your music 'out there', so i put it to you that you should all be submitting your music to this place

of course, this depends on you owning the rights to the music - if you're signed you will have to try and convince the label to send your stuff in.

the submissions page is here http://last.fm/labels/
did i mention its free?

Quote:
On Last.fm unknown artists get the same exposure as those with million-pound advertising budgets and of course it's free for labels, artists and listeners.

i think everyone on this board should seriously consider this
